New Delhi: In the nail-biting contest, India secured victory as it fought hard until the last over of the game. With this win, India has also secured the series with Axar Patel winning the title of “man of series”.

India was in cruise control after Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav each scored a half-century, but Australia tightened the screws in the last overs. The penultimate ball of the game, when India needed one more run to win, was won by Hardik Pandya’s squeezed boundary. Australia reached 186/7 thanks to the brilliant half-centuries of Cameron Green and Tim David.

A spectacular 104-run third-wicket stand between Kohli and Suryakumar, which took place in just 62 balls, nearly cost Australia the game after India lost Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul early. Green’s use of the ball to pressure India was significant, but Kohli struck a six off the first delivery to give his team the initiative. Then, with one ball in hand, Pandya led India past the goal line.

Axar Patel, who was declared player of the series, said, “When you do well, and the team wins you feel nice. The things I do in the IPL, bowling in the powerplay and when you execute it well, feels nice. The line and lengths, I bowl, I back myself. Even if the batter hits a good shot, I back myself. I try and execute my plans.”
