Australian batter Steve Smith smashed a Test hundred after a long gap of 541 days during the IND vs AUS 3rd Test being played at ‘The Gabba’ in Brisbane. Smith played an innings of 101 runs from 190 balls and smashed 12 fours during his stay at the crease. Smith has been among ‘fab four’ batters in the world which includes Virat Kohli, Joe Root and Kane Williamson other than him. While, Root, Kohli and Williamson have looked in decent touch and hit hundreds, Smith has looked a bit out of form. However, the latter once again proved that why he is known to be among the top batters in the world of the modern day era.
Before smashing a hundred in the third Test, Steve Smith had only scored 19 runs from three innings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as of now. Smith put up a stand of 241 runs from 302 balls along with Travis Head, who played a knock of 152 runs from 160 balls. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has certainly proved out to be a series which has brought out of form batter back to form.
Is Golden Era Of ‘Fab Four’ Back?
During the period of 2016 to 2020, batters such as Joe Root, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli were in the form of their life. These batters achieved a flurry of records with the bat and smashed hundreds with immense ease. However, like every day comes to end, some of these players weren’t able to score runs and some other young talent were arriving on the world stage. These players almost belong to the same age group and are almost in the last phase of their international career. As the ‘fab four’ is coming back to form it will certainly be a brilliant sign for world cricket.
