New Delhi: KL Rahul has been removed from his role as vice-captain by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after his poor runs from the bat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, the star batter still retained his place in the squad for remaining two matches.

The 30-year-old batter scored 17 off 41 balls in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test, crumbled for a forgetful individual score in India’s second task at the Arun Jaitely Stadium. After that, Indian openner was dismissed for 1 off 3 balls. India registered a comfortable 6 wickets win against the Australia in 2nd Test match.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma came into the Rahul’s rescue in the post match conference, Rohit said the team management remained convinced about Rahul’s ability as a Test-match opener.

Rohit supported Rahul
“Of late there has been a lot of talk about his batting, but for us as team management, we always look at the potential of any individual, not just KL,” Rohit said. “I was asked in the past about lot of players, and if the guy has potential, guys will get that extended run. It’s not just about KL, but anyone,” Rohit said in post match conference.
