New Delhi: Axar Patel became the quickest Indian to scalp 50 wickets in Test cricket in terms of balls bowled. Patel achieved this landmark on Day 5 of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar trophy at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.
Axar breaks Bumrah’s record
The 29-year-old spinner reached this milestone when he removed Travis Head in the 51st over of Australia’s second innings. Axar overtook Jasprit Bumrah’s record of 2465 balls to take 50 wickets in just 2205 balls on Indian soil.

Axar performance in BGT
Axar Patel has an amazing outing in the series against Australia, first, he scored fifty with bat and now with the bowl. However, he shone with the bat and scored 264 runs at an average of 88.00 in five innings to be the third-highest run-getter in this series after Usman Khawaja and Virat Kohli.
Axar Test debut
The 29-year-old left-arm orthodox made his Test debut against England in 2021 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Axar picked up seven wickets including a five-wicket haul in the second innings, assisting India in the 317-run win and levelling the series one-all after losing the first game of the series. Axar went on to pick 27 wickets in the series in just three games.
Axar played a match-winning knock alongside Virat Kohli, and together they both stitched a 100-plus runs partnership.
