New Delhi: The world’s number one bowler Ravichandran Ashwin now has surpassed Indian legend Kapil Dev to become India’s 3rd leading wicket-taker in international cricket on Thursday.
Ashwin overshadow Kapil Dev’s record
The 36-year-old spinner, who is the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Test matches, broke Kapil Dev’s record of 687 international wickets. Ashwin achieved this feat by taking two wickets in the third Test’s second-day play, which is currently underway at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.

Ashwin performance on Day 2
Ashwin, who is playing his 269th international match for India, first removed Peter Handscomb on the last ball of the 71st over as he open his wickets account in the 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Ashwin overtook Kapil’s tally when he removed Alex Carey on the first ball of the 75th over. Following that he then send back Nathan Lyon, to take a total of three wickets in Australia’s first innings.

Third highest wicket-taker for India
Ashwin is now only behind legends Anil Kumble (953 wickets in 401 matches) and Harbhajan Singh (707 wickets in 365 matches) in the list of highest wicket-takers for India.
Ashwin, who has picked up a total of 16 wickets against Australia in the ongoing Test series at home on Wednesday, reached the number one position in the recently released Test rankings. He dethroned England pacer James Anderson to take the top spot.
