With the T20 World Cup 2024 in mind, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar would be sitting with the likes of senior Team India players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to discuss their roles going into the quadrennial tournament.
According to reports, BCCI will be announcing the squads for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan right after the culmination of India’s ongoing Test series against South Africa.
The reports further suggest that the Indian team for the series will also feature Rohit Sharma as captain which will mark a return for the ‘Hitman’ in the shortest format after more than a year.
With Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav likely to be out of the series due to injuries, the more likely option to be named as captain will be none other than Rohit himself.
For Rohit and Virat, this year might be the last time they will be seen playing in the T20 format with youngsters waiting in the ranks to get their chance.

Reports also suggested that youngsters like Rinku Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal would be given a chance in the series with BCCI looking forward to introduce young players into the fold.
India will be taking on Afghanistan in a 3-match T20I series which will start from January 11 onwards.
However, reports suggest that BCCI will conduct a meeting in Delhi on January 2, discussing about several decisions which need to be taken in the near future.
India will play their 2nd Test against South Africa on January 3 after losing the first Test match by an innings and 32 runs at Centurion.
