The India Women’s cricket team is making plenty of noise about and over their chances of the first title for them at the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. Having faltered in the 2020 edition against Australia, they seem more poised than ever before to carry away the prestigious trophy.

Leg-spinner Poonam Yadav, who unfortunately did not figure in the 18-player squad announced for this tournament, spoke of the extended preparation that was under way at the National Cricket Academy here in Bengaluru. She felt such preparation would do real good to the team and the potential it has to succeed.

“Our coach, Amol Mazumdar, has focused a lot on improving our fielding and fitness,” she said. He arranged a brilliant 10-day skill camp that has been just precious. We have all been working hard and this training has cleared so much about our respective places in the team. It has been important to clear up where all the players fit and how to correct past mistakes for us to succeed this time in the World Cup.
