New Delhi: The first match of the T20 World Cup was played between Sri Lanka and Namibia. In this match, the 2014 World Cup champion and Asia Cup 2022 winner Sri Lanka was defeated by Namibia. Sri Lanka won the toss in the match and decided to bowl. Batting first, Namibia set Sri Lanka a target of 164 runs, in response Sri Lanka could only score 108 runs and lost by 56 runs.

John Freelink showed strength in bowling after batting

Chasing a total of 164 runs, Sri Lanka’s team dropped the wickets of opener Kushal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka and Danushka Gunathilaka in the very beginning. By the time of 10 overs, half the team was back towards the pavilion, after which captain Dasun Shanaka scored 29 runs but could not win the team.

On the other hand, Jan Frylinck, who showed strength in batting for Namibia, also showed an edge in the bowling and took 2 wickets. At the same time, Bernard Scholtz, Ben Shikongo and David Weiss also took two wickets each.
