In a heartfelt initiative to honour the legacy of India’s cricketing fraternity, the Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) has announced a new welfare scheme that promises financial assistance to the widows of its deceased members.
A Meaningful Step Forward
The scheme, approved during ICA’s second board meeting of the financial year on August 25, will provide a one-time grant of Rs 1 lakh to eligible beneficiaries. Nearly 50 families are expected to benefit in its first phase, bringing much-needed support to those who have long been associated with the game through their loved ones.
“This initiative reflects ICA’s ongoing commitment to recognising the contributions of cricketers and extending meaningful support to their families in times of need,” the board stated in an official release.
What’s in the Scheme?
- One-time financial grant: Rs 1 lakh
- Nearly 50 families to benefit in the first phase
- Approved during ICA’s board meeting on August 25
In the words of ICA: “This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to honour cricketers and support their families in times of need.”
Independent of Pensions
Unlike BCCI’s existing pension schemes, this grant is separate and aims to reach those who fall outside current benefit structures. The ICA also plans to review and upgrade it in future.
ICA’s Bigger Welfare Vision
Since its start in 2019, ICA has rolled out several initiatives:
- Rs 1 lakh grants for veteran players above 60 without pensions
- Health insurance up to Rs 2.5 lakh
- Annual health check-ups for over 2,200 members
- Emergency medical aid to 77 members
Why It Matters
This scheme reinforces ICA’s mission – to care for cricket’s unsung heroes and their families, long after their playing days are over.
