New Delhi: Liverpool’s captain Jorden Henderson has confirmed his departure from the club ahead of his move to Al Ettiftaq in the Saudi Pro League. The 33-year-old joins former club-mate Steven Gerrard, who took over as manager of Al Ettifaq on July 3 after stints at Rangers and Aston Villa.
Henderson career at Anfield
Henderson, who joined Liverpool from Sunderland in 2011, won seven major trophies during his time at Anfield, including the Champions League in 2019, and became the club’s first ever captain who lifted Premier League trophy in 2020.
“The last 12 years are hard to put into words, but saying goodbye is even harder,” the midfielder posted on his Instagram account on Wednesday.
“I will always be Red, until the day I die. Thank you for everything,” Henderson said in emotional post.
“You’ll never walk alone,” he added.
Henderson Al-Ettifaq deal
The 33-year-old midfielder has accepted the lucrative deal of £700,000-per-week at the Al-Ettifaq. This transfer made Henderson best English paid player in the world by a massive distance.

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford held the title until the former Liverpool star accepted a new salary package. After signing a new contract in the summer, Rashford is now earning £375,000 a week, and his team-mate Sancho is not far behind.
