Faruque Ahmed’s Huge Statement On Shakib Al Hasan’s Cricketing Future
Despite, Shakib Al Hasan’s retirement from Tests and T20Is, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Faruque Ahmed believes that the veteran all-rounder can still play for the national side. Faruque believes that Shakib needs to clear all the legal formalities and if such happens, he can still play for the national side. BCB president said during mascot launching event of Bangladesh Premier League 2025, “As for Shakib Al Hasan, I cannot provide a definitive answer. I want him to play, but his absence is not related to the cricket board. The reasons preventing his participation involve law enforcement and the court. It’s not easy for me to address this. If the issue is resolved, I still believe Shakib has the ability to play for the national team.”

Bangladesh has been a pretty disturbed place in the past few months. The violent student protest in the country led to the coup of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina, and Shakib Al Hasan is also a member of parliament from the same party. Soon after the new government came into power, criminal charges were enforced on Shakib and he was alleged to be involved in murder conspiracy. Since then, the Bangladeshi all-rounder hasn’t returned to the country due to which he wasn’t not able to play the Bangladesh vs South Africa Test match in Mirpur. It is very unlikely that Shakib will return back to Bangladesh until the current government is in power.
