‘I Am Just Going To Slog’ – Travis Head Explains How Playing For Sussex Transformed His Batting

Australian batter Travis Head credited playing for Sussex benefitted his batting and became the major reason behind his transformation.

Australian batter Travis Head has proven to be a nightmare for the India national cricket team in the past one year. The Indian team has been Head’s favorite opposition whenever it has come to score runs and hundreds. From slamming a ton in the World Test Championship 2023 final to a century in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, the left-handed Australian batter has been the barrier between win and the Indian team. In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia, Travis Head has already hit two centuries and looking at his form he is expected to get more hundreds.

However, a couple of years back, Travis Head was struggling with form and was dropped from the team’s squad. Head credited his stint with county club Sussex which helped him improve his batting. He said, “I lost my (national) contract, and then I went to Sussex and stunk it up there as well…I tried to keep batting the way I was batting and it wasn’t working. Then in one of my last games at Sussex I got 49 off 46 in the second innings and I thought, ‘F**k this, I am just going to slog…And I did well, so I thought, ‘Why don’t I just do that?’.”
