Steve Smith, one of the greatest names in the Test Cricket format is now facing the longest drought of his entire Test Cricket career. Smith has now gone 23 innings without a century. Although Steve Smith started out as a legspinner but managed to become Australia’s best batter since Sir Donald Bradman.
Early Career
Smith began his Test career in 2010 as a legspinner who batted at the 8th slot, 5 years later he became number 1 Test batter in the world. He made his Test debut in July 2010 against Pakistan at the Lord’s. He was appointed Australia’s 45th Test captain, while was filling in for the injured Michael Clarke in three Tests. Despite being only 25 at the time, the extra responsibility clearly didn’t hamper his performance, added Smith cemented his spot when Clarke retired at the end of the 2015 Ashes in England.

Smith has been featured in 109 Test matches and 195 innings. He has an outstanding average of 56.97 with a score of 9685. His innings include 32 centuries and 41 half-centuries. Smith is currently on the 5th spot with 757 points just below India’s young Yashasvi Jaiswal. His first test century came in the fifth Test of the 2013 Ashes series when he score 138 not out.

Smith, a concern for India?
His last ton was against England in the Ashes 2023 in Lord’s London. This was his 32nd Test Century and since then his blade has been blunt on the field. Smith has featured in 18 Test matches against India out of his 109 appearances. In the 18 matches he has played against the Indian side, he has managed to score 1887 with an average of more than 65. He score 8 centuries and 5 half centuries in these 18 matches. All eyes will be on the Australian star as he will aim to give his best against one of his favourite opponents in the ongoing BGT.
