New Delhi: Hockey India announced 18-member men’s hockey team that will participate in the Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023. Tournament will be held at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai from August 2 to 12.

India’s matches 

India will face South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan and China in the group stage of the tournament. The Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 also serves as a preparatory event for his all-important 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Indian team squad

The team continues to be led by drag-flicker ace and defender Harmanpreet Singh, with versatile midfielder Hardik Singh serving as vice-captain. PR Sreejesh and Krishan Bahadur Pathak have been named as the team’s designated goalkeepers, while Jarmanpreet Singh, Sumit, Jugraj Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Varun Kumar and Amit Rohidas have been named defenders.

Meanwhile, the midfield is led by Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Shamsher Singh and Nilakanta Sharma. In addition, Manpreet Singh, who was appointed as a defender against Europe in the Pro League, will return to midfield.

Akashdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, Sukjeet Singh and S. Karthi formed the front line. These forwards can score decisive goals, create scoring chances and put relentless pressure on the opposing defense.

Head coach Craig Fulton on team selection

Head coach Craig Fulton commented on the team selection, “We have carefully selected a team that has the potential to continue to perform well in the Asia Champions Trophy Chennai 2023.”

“The Indian men’s team selected for the Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai is a mix of youth and experience. It is an exciting time for the team as tomorrow marks the start of the Spanish Ice Hockey Federation’s 100th Anniversary Tournament and International Tournament in Spain,” he added
