‘He’s Well Rested’ – Sanjay Manjrekar Weighs On More International Participation For Jasprit Bumrah

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah shouldn't be rested and he must play the next three Tests against Australia.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been a constant contributor to Team India’s succes from a long time. Bumrah has turned out to be among the best bowlers in the world and has showcased the glimpse of the same by becoming the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The ace Indian bowler picked up eight wickets during the first Test match in Perth and starred in the Indian team’s 295-run victory. On the other hand, he turned out to be the lone warrior in Adelaide as other bowlers didn’t leave any impact from the other end.

Sanjay Manjrekar Opens Up Jasprit Bumrah Being Rested From International Cricket

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his views on whether Jasprit Bumrah should be rested for upcoming Tests or not. Manjrekar believes that Bumrah is well rested and must play the rest three Tests against Australia. He said to ESPNcricinfo, “I play him every Test match purely because Indian cricket takes care of Bumrah. And I’ve said this before as well, the number is etched in my head. 34% of international matches that India have played in the last three years is what Bumrah has played. Only 34% of what Indian cricket has played. So he’s well rested. And this is when you need, because these are the series that will be remembered forever. Give him a break in one of those bilaterals that we forget 48 hours later.”

Since 2022, the India national cricket team has played a total of 165 international matches out of which Jasprit Bumrah has been part of only 47 games. This means the Indian pacer has only played around 29 percent matches since the last two years. Bumrah missed a major chunk of 2022 and 2023 due to his injury, however, the latter has made a brilliant comeback ever since he has returned back to action.
