Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah showcased example of explicit captaincy during the IND vs AUS 1st Test played at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Bumrah led from the front in the absence of Rohit Sharma and picked up eight wickets throughout the match to help the Indian team achieve a historic 295-run win over the Aussies. The right-handed Indian pacer received a lot of praise from the cricket experts and one such was former England batter Michael Atherton. The cricketer turned broadcaster stated that he will thank god that he didn’t had to face a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah during his playing days.
Michael Atherton Heaps Praise On Jasprit Bumrah
Speaking to Sky Sports Cricket, Michael Atherton stated that Jasprit Bumrah is a nightmare. He said, “I thought Jasprit Bumrah was absolutely fantastic. Those two newborn spells. There are a few bowlers when you retire, you don’t really think about. You know your time as a player. But there’s the odd bowler that you just think ‘thank goodness I did not face him with the new ball.’ I mean, how would you play him?.”
“He’s like a nightmare, isn’t he? He stutters away off about 10 yards and then unleashes these thunderbolts, usually bang on a sixpence, and he steals a yard because he releases it in front of himself more so than anybody else. What a nightmare to face”, Michael Atherton added.
As Rohit Sharma will be available for the India national cricket team from the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jasprit Bumrah will once again move back to his main job of leading the Indian pace attack. The IND vs AUS 2nd Test will be played with the pink ball as it will be a day-night Test.
