Rohit Sharma has emerged as a rather polished interface between the established and the new lot in the team. He has helped them feel confident as they start their careers. The 37-year-old has had an easy transition since becoming the captain of the Indian team since last year too. He was part of the leadership group during Virat Kohli’s regime. He turned out to be that big-brother figure who can make young players feel easy both on and off the field. Akash Deep, who had made his international debut recently this year against England, highly praised Rohit, thanking him for the chance to play under the very best captain he has ever seen in the game.

“I always say it is a matter of good fortune and luck to play under Rohit bhaiya. I consider myself lucky to play under him. He is a different kind of captain; I have never seen a captain like him,” the fast bowler, who represents Bengal in the domestic circuit, told The Times of India.

“He is the best captain I have played under. He is just a cool and calm person. He keeps things so simple and easy for every player, not just for me. You will be amazed at how a player of Rohit’s stature deals with a youngster like a friend and brother,” he shared.

Akashdeep shares his experience

The Bengal pacer is especially enthusiastic about a particular incident that got etched in his memory during his debut match when he dismissed the England opener Zak Crawley with a fantastic delivery, though it was a no-ball, thanks to an overstep. He said that immediately after that incident, the captain Rohit Sharma approached him and said that he should not pay heed to anything of that sort and continue as he was doing.

“Rohit bhaiya came forward and motivated me after that no ball. He said, ‘Aage badh, hota rehta hai.’ He asked me to leave that no ball behind and move forward. But as a bowler, you don’t forget such incidents,” Akash revealed.

Recently Akashdeep had an incredible outing in the India vs Bangladesh 1st Test, he picked 2 wickets by giving away only 19 runs in 5 overs.
