What BCCI Justifies For Playing In Foreign Leagues?
BCCI has a policy against Indian male cricketers playing in foreign leagues, but Indian women cricketers have the liberty to do so.
High-Profile Names In Sydney Sixers
In recent years, the Sydney Sixers have boasted some high-profile overseas players such as Dwayne Bravo, Nathan McCullum, Chris Tremlett, and Johan Botha. Their ultimate wish of seeing Virat Kohli play for them will be until the superstar Indian batter calls time on international cricket.
The BCCI imposes this limitation on Indian cricketers to keep the IPL in the limelight, safeguard players’ fitness, regulate their itineraries, and secure the interests of domestic cricket. The Board considers the IPL a vital property and feels that opening up the opportunity for players to take part in other leagues may undermine its brand equity and appeal.
Different Rules For Women
The policy is different for women cricketers since India lacks a robust domestic T20 league like the men’s IPL. The exemption for women is to provide more exposure and opportunities for women’s cricket.
