Gujarat Titans administered a seven-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals in the opening IPL game at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad which earned them first place on the points table. After Gujarat Titans decided to pursue 204 runs as their target, they began the match with a shaky start after captain Shubman Gill (7) received an early dismissal. The Gujarat Titans triumphed against Delhi Capitals after Jos Buttler (97* off 54 balls, 11 fours, 4 sixes) secured their victory with four balls and seven wickets remaining. Gujarat Titans received support from West Indian batsman Sherfane Rutherford who scored 43 runs from 34 balls by hitting four boundaries and three sixes.

During the last over, Gujarat required 10 runs to secure victory, and Rahul Tewatia hit a six followed by a four through his first pair of bat-offs, Mitchell Starc to clinch the match. Gujarat Titans managed to move past Delhi Capitals on the points table after Buttler fell short of his century by three runs.
The home team Gujarat Titans received their first innings target of 204 runs from Delhi Capitals in the match. The team achieved its best powerplay score of the tournament when openers Abishek Porel and Karun Nair hit 18 and 31 runs at the top. The dismissal of Porel did not stop Delhi from achieving over 60 runs while batting in the first six overs. The ongoing batting strength developed by KL Rahul (28) Axar Patel (39) Tristan Stubbs (31) Ashutosh Sharma (37) helped Delhi Capitals reach 203 for 8 runs in their 20 overs. The outstanding bowling performance by Prasidh Krishna delivered four wickets throughout the match while runs from other players were steadily streaming.
