The search for India’s new head coach is in progress, with several prominent candidates being considered to replace the current coach, Rahul Dravid. Notable figures like Gautam Gambhir, Justin Langer, Stephen Fleming, and Mahela Jayawardene are reportedly in the mix, although no formal discussions have taken place between them and the BCCI yet.

According to a report, the likelihood of Gautam Gambhir becoming the head coach has increased. BCCI officials are scheduled to meet with the former India opener in Ahmedabad, where he is currently with the Kolkata Knight Riders for the IPL playoffs.

There has been no formal communication with the potential candidates, who are currently biding their time and weighing their options. However, Gambhir’s prospects appear to have improved. It is likely that BCCI officials will meet with him in Ahmedabad, where he is currently with KKR for the IPL playoffs.

The source also dismissed concerns about Gambhir’s frosty relationship with any senior India stars, stating that he is getting along with them quite well.

The on-field flare-ups between Gambhir and Virat Kohli are well-documented, but it appears they have moved on from their past rivalry. Recently, the two were seen hugging each other after a match between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore, and a clip of them having a lively chat went viral on social media.

Dravid’s contract with the BCCI ended after the 2023 ODI World Cup, but the board persuaded him to continue at least until the 2024 T20 World Cup. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has kept the door open for Dravid to reapply for the head coach position. However, reports suggest that the former India captain is reluctant to continue, as he wants to spend more time with his family.
