Jasprit Bumrah, the current vice captain of the India in Test format. A right-arm fast bowler, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the sport and the greatest fast bowler India has ever produced. He had a back injury in the recent concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy final Test at Australia. The 31-year-old failed to bowl for a long while during the first Test at Sydney due to it and had scans in Australia and on his return home.
Here is a list of important events he missed due to injuries:
- Asia Cup 2022– He missed this event due to a back injury. Then BCCI official said “Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before the T20 World Cup. We can’t risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate.”
- T20 World Cup 2022– He missed this event due to a back injury. PTI reported that Bumrah which was initially described as serious back injury, Bumrah will not go for surgery and his chances of playing in the T20 World Cup are almost nil.
- SL ODIs 2022– He missed this event as he needed more time to build his bowling resilience. The BCCI subsequently announced the delay in his return as a “precautionary measure,” and that Bumrah was being withdrawn from the ODIs against Sri Lanka because he needed “some more time to build bowling resilience.”
- IPL 2023– He missed this event because he had injury on a stress fracture in his back.
- WTC Final Against Australia 2023– Bumrah had been off the field with a serious back injury. He had done lower back surgery a few months ago in NZ. That throughout Media reports from April 2020 (as per statement by Virat), he started his rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru.
