Naseem Shah expresses his disappointment toward the rising pattern of insults directed at players particularly during national team losing periods.

Pakistan bowler Naseem Shah expresses his disappointment toward the rising pattern of insults directed at players particularly during national team losing periods. Such negative comments have a major negative influence on how players feel about themselves in their sport. The current difficulties faced by Pakistan cricket under Mohammad Rizwan’s leadership result in intensive criticism from previous cricketers according to Naseem’s viewpoint. The disappointing season has triggered heightened criticism for Pakistan team events because of its early World Cup exits and last place rank in the Test Championship cycle leading to the upcoming Challengers Trophy on home soil. Ex-cricketers regularly receive criticism for making personal attacks against teammates.

“As a fan, if you watch cricket and someone says something that doesn’t make sense to you, you might think, ‘Oh, this person has never played cricket.’ When we go home, even our own brothers sometimes make comments that make us say, ‘Yeah, okay, they’ve never played cricket,'” Naseem explained.

He recognized that while evaluating performance is valid, making personal remarks about appearance or speech is inappropriate and crosses the line. “I feel that getting too personal—commenting on how someone styles their hair or how they speak—crosses the line. These things hit personally,” he added.

Naseem Shah Advocates For Responsible Criticism Amid Pakistan’s Struggles

Naseem entered the match as a concussion substitute for Haris Rauf when he had not been named in Pakistan’s starting lineup for the second ODI versus New Zealand before achieving 51 runs from his 44 ball innings. The 51 runs Naseem scored did not prevent Pakistan from losing the second ODI match by 84 runs. Naseem noticed both the intensiveness of cricket fans and demanded that former players show greater responsibility in their verbal statements.

“Fans make comments, and that’s understandable because they watch cricket passionately. Even when we were kids, we would criticize the team when they lost. But if you’ve played cricket for 15 years and still make comments that have nothing to do with the game, it does hurt,” Naseem said. Undeterred by criticism, he remains steadfast in his resolve to grow and play a pivotal role in the team’s revival.
