New Delhi: Spain edged England 1-0 at the Stadium Australia in Sydney on Sunday, and created history as they held the prestigious trophy for the first time after winning the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023. One of the biggest tournament in the world of sports shattered all the previous records of ticket sale and T.V. viewership and regenerated the hope in the women's football.

First final appearance for England, Spain

It was the first appearance in the final for both England and Spain at the Women's World Cup final. Meanwhile, England have to wait for the first trophy since the men's tournament was held in 1966.

Olga Carmona: Hero of Spain victory

Olga Carmona beat England goalkeeper Mary Arps in the first half. Left-back Carmona scored in two consecutive World Cup games for Spain. The Spanish national team scored 18 goals, the most in the World Cup this year. Spain were given a penalty kick right after the start due to midfielder Keira Walsh's handball. However, goaltender Mary Arps dove left to save Jennifer Hermoso's penalty. England manager sarina wiegman made a number of changes, including signing striker Lauren James, but Spain were unable to equalize as they sought their first major title.

Carmona emotional words

"It was a really difficult game. We knew it was going to be difficult. England are a great team, but I think it was our game," Carmona told Spanish state broadcaster La 1. "We felt we were going to make it, but we can't stop it. To tell the truth, I don't know what to say." Carmona celebrated the goal by publishing a message on his undershirt that read "Merki," the 23-year-old said it was a tribute to his friend who lost his mother. "I want to say that this win is for my best friend's mother who passed away recently. I celebrated the goal with this jersey," added Carmona.
