FIFA WC 2022: Qatar govt rolls out rules on liquor, clothes

New Delhi: The world’s biggest football tournament FIFA World Cup 2022 is going to start on November 20, 2022. The tournament is being held in Qatar for the first time. However, one of the biggest sporting event in the world has already landed in controversies with its inception. On one hand, players will feel the heat of the match and the pressure of the tournament. On the other hand, the fans who are arriving from throughout the globe will also face some restrictions in their enjoyment. Just before the main matches begin, the Qatar government has rolled out a set of rules and restrictions which are appearing bizarre to average football fans.

Fans cannot wear revealing or short dresses

Being an Islamic country, every female fan in Qatar has to cover the upper part of their body. Also, they will not be allowed to wear clothes of above-knee length. There is an outright ban on all female fans wearing tight clothing of any kind in Qatar. There are many restrictions on female fans as well as male fans in Qatar. The men are not allowed to remove their shirts in the stadium. Men too should wear clothes that cover their knees.

Alcohol will be available only in fan zone

Consumption of alcohol is banned in Qatar but fan zones have been set up at various places by the government in view of the tournament. Fans can buy and drink alcohol only at these locations. Its consumption in public places is prohibited. Apart from this, it is also prohibited to have relations with any other woman or man other than your wife and husband. Homosexuality is a crime in Qatar. Foreign nationals can also be jailed for 7 years for such offences.
