Barcelona has been without any Champions League title since 2015, expecting a very bright start this season but it started with a defeat.
Flick’s team looked well-organised until Eric Garcia was sent off in just the 9th minute of the game. He was forced to commit the foul as the last man after captain Ter Stagen’s error in front of the 30-yard circle box.
It took Monaco no time to score afterwards, Akliouche put the ball behind Barcelona’s net due to a man advantage.
Barcelona reacted well with a man down and brought the team back into the game with his excellence, scoring from outside the box. Flick was brave, not making any changes after Eric was forced to leave the pitch, still playing with high-line.
Monaco continued to dominate in the second half as Barcelona failed to create any chances and put pressure. Barca at some points in the second half played better but the second goal from Monaco coming out of nothing put their progress at a halt. George Ilenikhena scored with 20 minutes left in the game to secure a win on a counter attack.

Barcelona’s Champions League campaign did not get off very well with errors and red cards. Ter Stagen was the issue of their defeat who struggled the whole 90 minutes.
The only positive side of Barca’s camp is the long-awaited return of Ansu Fati in the last couple of minutes of the normal time.
