FC Barcelona Secures Temporary Registration For Dani Olmo And Pau Victor Amid Ongoing Appeal

The Spanish national sports council (CSD) has temporarily allowed Barcelona to reregister Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second part of the season.

The Spanish national sports council (CSD) has temporarily allowed Barcelona to reregister Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second part of the season. Such has been the club’s condition: they had earlier complied with La Liga’s salary regulations only during the first half of the campaign, having managed to do so because of a loophole related to Andreas Christensen’s injury absence. Thus, with the new temporary clearance, Barca will now be able to register Olmo and Pau Victor in their squad for the rest of the season-count down to adding more strength into the roster and pushing for more.

Barca Faces Registration Setback For Olmo And Victor

Even though the battle to restore registration for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor was temporarily won by Barca, this has not been a permanent solution as the registrations have expired as of December 31, 2024. Though the sale of VIP boxes, supposedly worth 100 million euros (£83 million), was able to get the club back to 1:1 for the upcoming season because it was counting on Camp Nou renovations, Olmo and Victor’s paperwork was submitted way too late to remedy the situation. Players cannot be registered by the same club for a second time in a single season, according to regulations. Since both players were un-registered, it sounded dire when La Liga and RFEF rejected Barca’s attempts to push the registrations through.

Barca Granted Temporary License For Olmo And Victor

Having seen their legal attempt rejected by a local court, Barca took the case to the national sports council (CSD). Currently, a provisional permit has been granted by the CSD to register Olmo and Victor until the final ruling on their appeal. The CSD explained in a statement, This temporary measure suspends the resolution of La Liga and RFEF and eliminates the sports licenses of the players until the club and players’ appeal is resolved.

Temporary Victory For Barca In Olmo And Victor Registration Saga

The ruling by the CSD also indicates that the validity of the licenses of Olmo and Victor is not overridden until the resolution of the appeal. For Barca, it is not an absolute victory, but certainly a crucial win in the given situation. Recent headlines had been mainly around Olmo, who joined Barca for €60m last summer. At some point, Olmo could have easily terminated his contract, pocketed all the full salary from the club, and walked away as a free agent. However, Barca’s issue could be put on hold because Olmo instead remained loyal and patient with the club.
