Rohit Sharma joined back the Indian Team in 2nd Test against Australia after a short break due to birth of his second child. After his return one of the most significant decision that Rohit Sharma took was to bat in the middle order at number 6 but it back fired as the Indian skipper failed to score runs under pressure.
Rohit Sharma At No.6 Back-Fired For India In 2nd Test
Rohit Sharma scored only 9 runs in both the innings eventually India lost the 2nd Test as Australia’s lethal bowling completely dismantled India’s batting lineup.
In a conversation with News24’s senior journalist Manak Gupta, Suresh Raina revealed why Rohit Sharma should bat at as an opener. The former Indian cricketer believes that the impact Rohit Sharma has while opening is unmatchable and he will definitely be leading from the front.
“Rohit Sharma’s impact while batting in the top order is completely different, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal should open while KL Rahul can bat in the lower order,” said Raina
Rohit Should Open, Rahul Can Bat In Lower Order: Opines Raina
According to Raina, KL Rahul has the caliber to bat down the order and stabilize the innings hence he can bat at number 7. Suresh Raina even opined that he was sure in the 3rd Test against Australia Rohit Sharma will be seen opening with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
“When Rohit plays at the top, he will lead from the front, like Pat Cummins has been doing for his team, I’m sure in the next match we’ll see Rohit Sharma opening.” Suresh Raina on why Rohit Sharma is an ideal opener
“KL Rahul is a very sensible player and he can play at number 7.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal & Rohit Sharma: The Ideal Openers For India
“Rohit Sharma plays spin very well, he has good ability to even attack against a fast bowler and with Yashasvi already batting well it will be very important for Rohit to bat in as an opener.”
Both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma have become a dynamic duo since they were paired together in July 2023. But with Rohit Sharma batting in lower order India is struggling to find the much-neede stability and the defeat against Australia in the 2nd Test is likely to be an eye opener.
India will be looking for a chance to bounce back and keep their WTC Final hopes alive as they take on Australia in the 3rd Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MSG), starting from December 14.
