The postponement of Smriti Mandhana and musician Palash Muchhal’s wedding has triggered a whirlwind of speculation online, and the spotlight unexpectedly shifted to a woman named Mary D’Costa. As screenshots claiming to show private chats between D’Costa and Muchhal spread across social media, many jumped to conclusions. Now, D’Costa has stepped in to shut down the rumours once and for all.
The alleged screenshots first popped up on Reddit before spiraling across Instagram, X, and fan forums. Users claimed the chats hinted at a flirtatious exchange-enough to set off discussions about whether the wedding delay had anything to do with off-field drama.
But D’Costa’s clarification tells a very different story.
In a detailed Instagram statement, she said she had never even met Palash Muchhal and that their communication—whatever it was—lasted only a month.
“First, the exchange of chats happened between April 29th and May 30th 2025,” she wrote. “I want to make it absolutely clear that I never met him and I never got involved with him in any way.”
She added that she had already addressed the matter publicly back in July, but her posts didn’t gain any traction at the time.
D’Costa also pushed back against theories about her identity. With multiple social media users mixing her up with a choreographer connected to the wedding preparations, she made it clear she had zero professional involvement in the event.
“There’s been a lot of confusion about who I am… I am not the choreographer, and I am not the person he cheated with,” she reiterated.
Mandhana and Muchhal were scheduled to marry on November 23 in Sangli, Maharashtra. The real reason for the postponement, however, was far more serious – Mandhana’s father was hospitalized after a heart-related medical emergency. Shortly after, Mandhana removed all her wedding-related posts from Instagram, which only added fuel to the online chatter.
D’Costa’s statement attempts to put a lid on the swirl of assumptions, stressing that none of the circulating allegations connect back to her. Whether the rumour mill will slow down remains to be seen, but at least one voice at the center of the storm has now spoken clearly.
