The hosts out played Athletic Club in the second half, too good for them and using every substitute at their disposal as well as their tactical insight to wrap up the tie in style at Old Trafford.
Athletic Club’s Missed Opportunity
Athletic Club kicked off brightly, lessening the arrears through a nicely gotten goal by Jauregizar, but failure to capitalise off other opportunities had affected the mood of the players. What Athletic Could Have Done Differently
Athletic Club should have had required some composure in special situations and better finishing to have a chance to move forward. So it would have created some real pressure to United taking advantage of United’s nervousness in the first half with more clinical attacking. Offensively, they might have avoided Casemiro’s and Højlund’s goals if they closed down space quicker and stopped easier deliveries into the box from their fullbacks. Improved management of the game and discipline in the follow half were equally important.
