India A will take on England Lions in preparatory matches as the Indian team gears up for the Test series. The two ‘A’ teams are set to play each other in two first-class matches. Abhimanyu Easwaran will lead India A, with Dhruv Jurel as his assistant. The senior squad in Tests now includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Shardul Thakur. Therefore, such players need time on the field to work on their skills.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who came to bat along with Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, was dismissed by Eddie Jack on just 24 runs. This has raised concerns over India’s opening batting as the England series will kick things off from 20 June and after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, the Indian batting lineup has suffered a major setback. To fill the gap of two eminent batting maestros in the Test cricket squad, India needs to see for future options for the two. Jaiswal who had performed exceptionally well in the previous England Test series, will be one of the key players in this series.
