England women’s squad has suffered a major setback with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt being sidelined from the upcoming T20Is against India because of a groin injury. The ace all-rounder injured herself in the third T20I in Bristol, which led to her being forced out of the match in the middle order.
Sciver-Brunt to Miss T20Is, Eyes Return for ODIs
Sciver-Brunt strained her left groin, according to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and will no longer participate in the five-match T20I series. Despite this, she is likely to be available for the upcoming ODI series that gets underway on July 16.
In her absence, veteran batter Tammy Beaumont will assume the captaincy role. The team also added Maia Bouchier as a cover for injured Sciver-Brunt.
“Nat Sciver-Brunt will miss the remainder of the Vitality IT20 series against India as a result of the left groin injury she suffered in Bristol,” the ECB announced in an official statement.

Workload Management and Injury Woes
Sciver-Brunt had already been handled with care throughout the T20I series, not having bowled in the opening two matches. Her returns with the bat had been restrained, too, with a score of only 13 in the second T20I prior to injuring herself.
India Lead 2-1
India are leading the five-match series by 2-1 right now. They recorded comprehensive victories in the first two games, defeating England by 97 and 24 runs, respectively. England regained momentum in the third T20I with a close five-run win to keep themselves alive in the competition.
With two games remaining, the series is still very much alive, but England’s mission is now more difficult without their talismanic captain. Now all attention will be on Tammy Beaumont and the rest of the team as they attempt to square the series.
