The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has decided to name a stand at the Eden Gardens after former India women’s team captain Jhulan Goswami, and it will be inaugurated on January 22 next year during India’s first T20I against England. The B block will be named after her. Currently, the Eden Gardens has stands named after former India captain late Pankaj Roy, former India captain Sourav Ganguly, , former BCCI presidents late Jagmohan Dalmiya and Biswanath Dutt, along with some of the Army veterans.

Goswami is a more-than-handy lower-order batsman. Goswami partnered Mithali Raj for a better part of her record-breaking 214 against England at Taunton in 2002. The pair added 157, with Goswami chipping in with 62. England was also the scene of India’s one-off Test win in 2014, where Goswami triggered the hosts’ slide with a four-wicket haul to set up the win. In 2015, she was one of four senior players who were handed the highest grade of central contracts by BCCI for the first time.

Jhulan and Eden Gardens

  • Mentoring: Goswami was mentor of the Bengal women’s and Bengal U19 women’s teams at the Eden Gardens.
  • Training: Goswami has trained at the Eden Gardens indoor training arena, which is transformed into a series of cages for bowlers and batters.
