The Duleep Trophy 2024 gets underway on September 5, with matches scheduled across different cities. This should be an exciting season with many experienced players returning to the side in the run-up to the national Test season. The names of former India vice-captain KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill dot the list as they will play for their respective sides this season.

Time When India’s Legend Missed A Duleep Trophy Match

Duleep Trophy considered to one of the crucial event which paved way for players to the Indian Team spot. MS Dhoni also got into the Duleep Trophy team in 2001, but a sad story saw him missing that opportunity. Dhoni got to know about his selection through a friend, and while on his way to the match, the vehicle which they were driving broke down, and he could not make it to the important match.

He did travel with the East Zone team to Pune for their next game, which Sachin Tendulkar opened with a stunning 199 runs. West Zone won the tournament by an innings and 363 runs.

Dhoni’s appearance in Duleep Trophy was very short.After his Test debut in 2005, Dhoni lost interest in domestic cricket and never played a single Ranji Trophy match after 2005. He went on to represent Jharkhand in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the year 2007, following which he went onto an extended break from domestic cricket.

Dhoni didn’t represent Jharkhand again until the 2015/16 season, when he turned out in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and again the following season. He retired from international cricket in August 2020 having played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is. He continues to play in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings.

Star Players To Feature In Duleep Trophy 2024

A lot of senior players will be featuring in Duleep Trophy This Year. The marquee players will be playing only till September 12 as they’ve to go further for national duty as the two match Test series against Bangladesh will start from September 19. All eyes will be on India A captain Shubman Gill who is a contender for gaining his spot in the Indian Test Team. Other players who are expected to leave their mark are Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel.
