India C captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was compelled to retire hurt after just the second ball of the Duleep Trophy match against India B at the Rural Development Trust Stadium “B” in Anantapur on Thursday.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Injured
After hitting the opening delivery for a four off India B seamer Mukesh Kumar, Gaikwad had to retire hurt when he twisted his ankle while attempting a run off the next ball. Madhya Pradesh’s Rajat Patidar came in as substitute for the injured Gaikwad and joined Sai Sudharsan at the crease in the first over itself.

Gaikwad’s side won a thriller in the previous round against India D at Anantapur. He had made a quick 46 off 48 balls chasing a 236-run target, but an unexpected collapse nearly cost them the match until Manav Suthar and Abishek Porel saw India C through.
Rough-Patch For Gaikwad Due To Constant Injuries
Ruturaj has had a patchy red-ball career, having missed last December’s tour of South Africa because of a ring finger injury that ruled him out after being selected in the Indian Test squad. He hasn’t returned to the Test side ever since.
The Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad first represented Maharashtra in a First-Class match back in October 2016. The 25-year-old has so far scored over 2,000 runs at an average of more than 42, including 6 hundreds and ten half-centuries.
In another Duleep Trophy match at the central Anantapur Cricket Ground, Shreyas Iyer-led India D came out on top when Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl, against Mayank Agarwal-led India A.
