The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Prasidh Krishna are among the players who won’t be available for the first round of the 2024 Duleep Trophy, starting Thursday, September 5 in Bengaluru and Anantapur, marking the start to the red-ball season in Indian domestic cricket.

Ishan Kishan Ruled Out Due To Injury

Ishan Kishan had made a successful return to red-ball cricket last month, scoring a century for Jharkhand Cricket Association while leading the team. However, Kishan, who had shown eagerness to rejoin the Indian Test squad after taking a mental health break and missing the South Africa Test series in December 2023, suffered an injury during the Buchi Babu Tournament. This has been duly confirmed by the BCCI in their statement on Wednesday.

The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his condition and working towards ensuring a swift recovery,” read the media release from the Indian board.

Suryakumar Yadav And Prasidh Krishna Injured

Suryakumar Yadav was all prepped up to play the first round of the Duleep Trophy for West Zone against Central Zone, starting in Coimbatore on September 8. He had expressed his desire to make a Test appearances since his debut in the home series against Australia in February 2023. However, he sustained a right thumb sprain while fielding in the Buchi Babu Tournament last month. The India T20I captain played only one match for the Mumbai Cricket Association against TNCA XI in Coimbatore.

The BCCI Medical Team is assessing his injury, and a final call on his availability for the second leg of the tournament will be taken next week. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna will, however, miss out on the first-round because he is still undergoing rehabilitation due to subsequent surgery on his left quadriceps tendon. On the other hand, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been cleared to play.
