England’s opening duo Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley have entered the record books at Headingley. When in pursuit of a total of 371 left by India, the opening pair have done something that no English pair has done since 1984 in the fourth innings. Indian bowlers on the last day of the Test looked helpless in front of Duckett and Crawley. Both the batsmen had reached their half-centuries and were quickly taking England close to the target.

Duckett-Crawley’s Historic Achievement
Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley have achieved a century partnership. This is the first such occasion since 1984 when an English duo has established a 100+ run partnership in the fourth innings at Headingley. In 1984, Desmond Haynes and Gordon Greenidge combined to achieve a 106-run partnership. But Duckett and Crawley have now broken that record. While the report was being filed, the pair had already added 140 runs for the first wicket without losing a single wicket. Duckett, as in the first innings, seemed to be in perfect touch during the second innings as well and got to his half-century in only 66 balls.
A Major Landmark for Duckett
Ben Duckett has now become just the second English opener in the past 30 years to make a fifty in both innings of a Test match at Headingley. He followed his excellent knock of 62 runs in the first innings with another half-century in the second. With this, Duckett also became the first English opener in the last 10 years to register fifties in both innings at Headingley. The last to do so was Alastair Cook in 2015. Just like the first innings, Duckett showed excellent form in the second and punished the Indian bowlers with ease. In the first innings, he had played a solid knock of 62 off 94 balls.
