Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah displayed a brilliant performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and ended up being the Player of the Series. Bumrah picked up 32 wickets from five games and broke the backbone of the Australian batters. The latter also led the Indian team for the fifth Test as Rohit Sharma opted out of the match due to poor form. Mohammad Kaif Denies Jasprit Bumrah As Next Test Captain

Many cricket experts want Jasprit Bumrah to become the next Test captain of the Indian team but former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif opposes the proposal. Kaif believes that Bumrah is India’s main strike bowler and BCCI should focus on him taking wickets and remaining fit. He wrote on ‘X’, “BCCI should think twice before appointing Bumrah as full time captain. He needs to solely focus on taking wkts and staying fit. Added leadership responsibility, getting carried away in heat of moment can result in injuries and shorten an outstanding career. Don’t kill the golden goose.”

Jasprit Bumrah has emerged as a completely different product ever since he has returned from his back injury. Bumrah remained out of international action for almost 1.5 years and missed major tournaments. However, the latter did tremendous hard work and ended up becoming the second-highest wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023.
