IND vs ENG: After a dominant win over England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final, the Indian team held their traditional best fielder medal ceremony. This time, former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik was invited to present the award. Many cricket legends have attended this World Cup to honor Indian players with the medal.

Karthik was warmly welcomed by the Indian players as he entered the dressing room. He made a joke that had everyone laughing, particularly addressing India’s fielding coach, T Dilip.
“First of all, I feel Dilip had set up such a high standard. Who was given these awards? Sachin Vivian Richards. Buggy Cam, Spider Cam. I think you’ve downgraded by calling me here the award. The only thing left was UFO and aliens everybody else had handed this award. So I mean, from where do I start. Obviously, you guys have done phenomenally well to be here. So congratulations,” Karthik said in a video posted by BCCI on Instagram.

Karthik humorously remarked that the ceremony had seen legends like Vivian Richards giving out awards, but joked that Dilip had ‘downgraded’ the event by inviting him, suggesting that perhaps next time, aliens or UFOs might be brought in to present the awards.
“Two years ago, same game against the same opponent. I remember how we were in the dressing room on a cool night in Adelaide. Things did not go away, but from there to where? On the beach. Today, it’s just been great to watch some very good decisions along the way and in picking the team itself. We started there, but it’s been outstanding to see it’s been outstanding to see how well you’ll have played.”
The Indian dressing room was full of laughter and camaraderie. Karthik awarded the best fielding medal to Rishabh Pant for his outstanding keeping skills during the match, with Pant being nominated alongside Kuldeep Yadav.
Karthik praised the Indian team’s performance in the tournament as they advanced to the final of the T20 World Cup 2024.
He also recalled how India had lost the semi-final to England two years ago and expressed satisfaction at how they managed to avenge that loss in such a commanding way.
Karthik Lauds Rishabh Pant
Karthik commended Pant for his impressive comeback as he presented him with the medal.
“As I said, there are many stories in the sport and there are not many better than the person I’m going to be giving it to what he’s gone through a year ago. I don’t think six months ago we expected him to be in this team. Not many would have expected him to play the sport this early, but for him to come out here, play the way he’s done. Start at the IPL and do what he’s done, I think a We are all very happy for him. But B, I think he’s made millions happy. But just being on the field. Thank you. Thank you. Good luck,” Karthik said.
