Neeraj Chopra, India’s star javelin thrower, is in top physical condition and ready to secure a medal at the upcoming Paris Games, according to Spencer Mackay, the head of strength and conditioning at Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS).

The 26-year-old athlete, who previously overcame an elbow injury at IIS before winning Olympic gold in Tokyo last year, has recently been dealing with an adductor issue. Although Chopra skipped the Paris Diamond League, he is set to compete directly in the Olympics. Mackay, who is closely monitoring Chopra, emphasized that the javelin star is well-prepared and in excellent shape.

In a recent interview with PTI, Mackay stated, “His past injuries and recent issues are no longer a concern. As the Olympic finals approach, Neeraj will be in a strong position to bring home another medal for the nation.”

Chopra, an Olympic and World champion, returned to competition in June, winning his first gold medal at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland. He also secured a silver medal at the Doha Diamond League in May and a gold at the National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.

Mackay highlighted the importance of sports science and rehabilitation in modern athletic training, emphasizing their role in performance enhancement, injury prevention, and effective recovery. He expressed optimism about India’s potential to elevate its athletes’ performance and achieve greater success in future Olympics.

Referring to the rehabilitation programs at IIS, he explained, “Our elite athletes train offsite, but our focus is on customizing rehab programs based on individual needs and injuries. We consider the psychological aspect of each athlete’s injury journey and aim to facilitate their return to peak performance levels.”

He added, “Having the opportunity to positively impact athlete rehabilitation and witness their successful return to competition is truly rewarding for us at IIS.”
