The Mumbai Indians ended their IPL 2025 losing sequence when they defeated Delhi Capitals by 12 runs during their match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The match at this stadium served as the first contest of IPL 2025 season while Delhi had an outstanding chance to maintain their streak of four successive victories. Followed by Axar Patel at the helm Delhi got close to victory before facing failure due to their careless mistakes. Three run-out eliminations in a single over led Delhi Capitals to clasp defeat from victory in the 19th over of the game. The first defeat of Delhi Capitals took place during this match.

On Sunday April 13 Delhi Capitals put forth an intense attempt to pursue the 206-run target. During the 15th over of the game Delhi Capitals maintained their dominance but their game expired suddenly due to damaging choices in the last four overs leading to Mumbai Indians’ comeback victory. During the 19th over disaster the team required 15 runs to win from 9 balls when they suffered three successive run-outs that resulted in their defeat.
Tilak and Naman Lead Mumbai’s Charge
Mumbai Indians took the first batting spot to amass 205 five wickets in their twenty overs. The match belonged to Tilak Varma who scored 59 runs in 33 deliveries alongside Naman Dhir who finished with a remarkable 38 runs from 17 balls. Their combined batting resulted in 62 runs during 33 balls. The previous batting highlights belonged to Suryakumar Yadav (40) and Ryan Rickelton (41) before Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir contributed. In the playing match between Delhi and Mumbai Yadav maintained his status as the standout bowler by taking two wickets and giving up only 23 runs.
Karun Nair’s Lone Battle Goes in Vain
When Delhi began their batting innings Jake Fraser-McGurk was removed by the first delivery. The day belonged to impact substitute Karun Nair who made his return to IPL action after three years. His innings included ninety-nine points scored through forty deliveries with five sixes and twelve four-ball hits. Bumrah suffered as Nair managed to score 26 runs in 9 deliveries during their match.
