Birmingham: The duo of Sreeja Akula and Achanta Kamal has sailed into the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles round in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.

The Indian pair defeated Leong Chee Feng and Ho Ying from Malaysia in first rounds and won the match by 3-0.

Akula and Kamal lost first set to the Malaysian duo but made a brilliant comeback to win the next three sets consecutively.

CWG2022 Table Tennis: Sreeja Akula, Achanta Kamal sails into quarter-finals

In the first round, Indian lost to Malaysian team by 5-11 but the motivation for a comeback left the opposition in shock. Indian team completely dominated the second set and did not give any window to Malaysia for marking points as it ended in 11-2.

The third set finished with a score line of 6-11 and gave Indian lead of 2-1. It did not take the duo long to book their berth in quarter-finals as they ended up defeating their opponents by 11-5 in fourth set.
