Birmingham: India ace wrestler Bajrang Punia wins gold in wrestling for India as he defeats Canadian player McNeil Lachlan in finals of the ongoing CWG2022.
Punia has won the game in the Men’s Freestyle 65kg category by 9-2. With the win, Punia successfully defended the gold medal by playing a spectacular game.
Earlier, India women wrestler won the silver medal but couldn’t control her tears from flowing down her cheeks after losing the game.
Bajrang Punia wins GOLD in wrestling: Previous Records
Indian wrestler Punia won gold in the last edition in Australia. Fighting in 65 kg Freestyle category, the wrestler proved his dominance as he contributed with a blistering gold in the tally of 12 medals in wrestling.
Punia won a bronze medal last year in the Tokyo Olympics after defeating Daulet Niyazbekov by a margin of 8-0 and will be strong contender of the medal at CWG2022.
He received the Arjuna Award in 2015 and after that, he also received Padma Shri (2019), Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (2019) and FICCI India Sports Award (2020). He also works in the Indian Railways in the post of Gazetted officer OSD Sports.
