Sudhir has brought another gold to the country. This is the country’s first gold in Para Powerlifting. The number of gold medals won by India has reached 6 and the total number of medals has reached 20.
Sudhir won the historic gold medal in the men’s heavyweight category with 134.5 points, setting a Commonwealth Games record. In these games, 87 kg Sudhir lifted 208 kg in his first attempt and secured the first position, scoring more than 132 points. However, during this time he was facing a challenge from a Nigerian powerlifter, who pushed Sudhir to second position with his second attempt.

Clash with Nigerian athlete
In his second attempt, Sudhir lifted a weight of 212 kg to achieve a record 134.5 points. Nigeria’s Ikechukwu Christian Ubichukwu failed to lift 203 kg in his last attempt, which sealed Sudhir’s gold medal.

India has so far won six gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. Mirabai Chanu, Jeremy Lalnirunga and Achinta Sheuly have won gold in weightlifting. At the same time, the women’s lawn ball team and men’s table tennis team also won gold medals. Talking about the total medals, India has 20 medals.
