CWG 2022: Indian weightlifters continue to perform well at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Harjinder Kaur has added to India’s tally by winning the bronze medal in the women’s 71 kg category.
She lifted a total of 212 kg. This is the 9th medal for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Harjinder Kaur got this bronze medal due to a stroke of luck. In fact, she was fourth after finishing her attempts in the clean and jerk.
However, the weightlifter from Nigeria failed in all three of her attempts in clean and jerk, handing Harjinder the bronze medal.
Earlier, Ajay Singh of India missed out on a medal in the men’s 81 kg category. Ajay Singh lifted a total of 319 kg in Snatch and Clean and Jerk to finish fourth. England’s Chris Murray won the gold with a Games record of 325 kg.
Third attempt failed
Ajay Singh lifted 138 kg in the first attempt of in the snatch round, 140 kg in the second and 143 kg in the third attempt. He then lifted 172 and 176 kg in clean and jerk. The third attempt failed. This is where he missed out on winning a medal.
