CWG 2022: Achint Sheuli sets record, India wins another weightlifting gold

CWG 2022: Indian weightlifters continue to perform well at the Commonwealth Games 2022. There were three weightlifting events on Sunday and India won gold in two. India has won 6 medals so far and all of them have come in weightlifting.

India has won three gold medals. In the men’s 73 kg category, India’s Achint Sheuli won the gold medal.

Achint Sheuli created new record

Achint Shuli not only created a Commonwealth Games record by lifting 313 kg in his very first Commonwealth Games, but also won the third gold for India. He lifted 143 kg in the snatch round and 170 kg in the clean and jerk round.

Earlier yesterday, Jeremy Lalrinnunga had won the gold medal in the 67kg weight category.

Proud son of labouror father

Achint Sheuli hails from Howrah, West Bengal. His childhood was full of challenges. His father used to drive a rickshaw or work as a labourer to maintain the family. He passed away when Shuley was 12 years old.

A mountain of sorrow descended on the family because after the passing of the father, the family faced a crisis of livelihood. After his father passed away, Achint joined his mother and brother in supporting the family. He used to work as a tailor.

Hard work brought results

Achint Shuli did not give up weightlifting even in the midst of countless difficulties. He kept practicing hard. It is said that hard work bears fruit one day.

Achint Sheuli won gold at the 2018 Youth Games. He was the Commonwealth Champion twice. In 2021, he won silver at the Junior World Championships. Now winning gold in Birmingham Commonwealth Games gave crores of Indians a chance to be happy.

India has now reached the sixth position in the medal tally of Commonwealth Games 2022. Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa and Canada are ahead of India.
