Yuzvendra Chahal, who appears to be out of favor for a spot in India’s white-ball squad and is unlikely to make the cut for the upcoming Champions Trophy, he was also left out of Haryana’s List A team for the knockout rounds of the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday. The step was taken after several speculations surfacing over his personal life related to divorce his wife Dhanashree Verma. Chahal had also been omitted from the group stage of the tournament, during which the defending champions Haryana finished second in Group A with six wins out of seven matches, securing 24 points, just behind unbeaten Gujarat.
Haryana would take on Bengal in the 1st Preliminary quarter-final at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on January 9. Before this match, however, the selectors had made plenty of changes, but Chahal was out again. Rebutting these claims, the HCA official at Cricbuzz said that such a decision is completely unrelated to Chahal’s personal problem and is totally cricketing-minded.
“We have made this decision in consultation with him, as we aim to groom a few youngsters with an eye on the future,” the HCA official explained. “Parth Vats, a leg-spin all-rounder, is the player we are introducing at this stage.”
