YEAR ENDER 2025: The year 2025 has been a mix for the Indian cricket team, where the team clinched ICC Champions Trophy and Asia Cup but also lost some important Test Series like Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Test Series against South Africa. Apart from this, there was a bright aspect for Team India which not only shook India but also the world cricket fraternity and that player’s name is none other than, the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
It has been about total dominance for Bihar’s teenage prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. At just 14 years old, the left-hand batter has rewritten the record books of modern cricket, transitioning from a domestic curiosity to a global superstar in a single calendar year.
All started in IPL
The story started with a bidding war during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, where the inaugural champion Rajasthan Royals acquired Suryavanshi for Rs 1.1 Crore. On April 19, he became the youngest player in IPL history (14 years, 23 days) when he debuted against LSG at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. He lived up to the hype instantly, smashing a six off his very first ball.
Just 9 days later, he slammed a 35-ball 101 against Gujarat Titans. This made him the youngest centurion in Men’s T20 history, only behind Chris Gayle’s all-time record.

Exploits in India U-19
After his IPL exploits, he continued his rich reign of form in India under-19 too. On July 5, 2025, he became the youngest centurion in Youth ODI history, scoring 143 against England U-19 at Worcester.
In Rising Stars Asia Cup, Suryavanshi showed his brilliance yet again and smashed 144 runs off just 42 balls against the UAE, where he reached his century in 32 balls, which made him the first player to record two-consecutive T20 centuries in 35 balls or less in history.

More miles to go
While critics and legends like Sachin Tendulkar have praised his ‘fearless’ approach, the end of 2025 sees Suryavanshi at a crossroads. Despite his explosive power, his recent struggle in the U-19 Asia Cup final against Pakistan has highlighted a need for tactical flexibility. However, with 688 runs and 60 sixes in T20s this year, there is no doubt that Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the most exciting talent to emerge in a generation.
