Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has solidly made himself a three-format prospect for India. At only 23, the left-handed opener has impressed with his flair, composure, and aggressive manner, demonstrating that he has the ability to excel across formats against world-class bowling attacks. Most view him as one of the stalwarts of Indian cricket’s future.
While Jaiswal has already spoken about his dream of winning a World Cup for India, he recently revealed another major ambition of captaining the Indian Team. Speaking on entrepreneur Raj Shamani’s podcast, Jaiswal shared that he hopes to grow into a leadership role one day. He emphasized his focus on fitness, consistency, and personal growth, highlighting that captaincy is a long-term goal he’s working towards.

“Currently, I am focusing a lot on my fitness. I am learning more about my body as I feel that with time, I need to be fitter and need to work more on my skills,” Jaiswal said. “Every day, I have to work on myself to evolve myself into a leader. One day, I want to be a captain.”
But with Shubman Gill taking charge of India in ODIs and Tests now, and having good support from the BCCI, a national leadership role cannot be expected for Jaiswal as of now. Gill, who is around the same age, is being groomed as India’s next all-format skipper after the Rohit Sharma captaincy era came to an end.
All that not with standing, Jaiswal’s leadership aspiration may start from the IPL. His team, Rajasthan Royals, is in the process of a complete revamp and with increasing speculation surrounding Sanju Samson’s future as captain, Jaiswal might be in line for a shot at captaincy. Having been an RR stalwart for a while now, he may be regarded as the face of the team for the future.
