India is witnessing one of the most dismal period in Test cricket, a legacy which was once thought to be unshakable is now crumbling into piles of dust. The Indian Team at home was a beast that no one could defeat but now South Africa has registered its first win after 25 years on the Indian soil. Whether its 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand last year or the series whitewash against South Africa this year, India’s Test legacy is slowly converting into shambles now.
After Gautam Gambhir took over as the head coach, India’s performance in Test cricket has been poor. He began his tenure as the coach of the Indian team in July 2024. Under Gambhir’s leadership, India has played 19 Test matches, winning only 7, with two matches ending in a 2 draw and 10 losses.
India has now slipped to fifth position with 52 points in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table which is even below Pakistan.

The second Test between India and South Africa in Guwahati wrapped up, and it couldn’t have gone worse for the home side. From start to finish, South Africa dominated every session, leaving India searching for answers after a heavy defeat by 408 runs.
Chasing a massive target of 549 runs, India needed nothing short of a miracle to stay alive in the match. Fans were hopeful that the team would at least survive the final day and drag the game to a draw. But that didn’t happen. India’s batting crumbled once again, and the team was bowled out in just 63.5 overs, handing South Africa a thumping 408-run victory.
