WTC 2023 Final: Australia’s first inning ended after Indian pacers, especially Mohammad Siraj performed well on the second day of the World Test Championship Final at Oval ground in England. 

After the Marathon innings of Travis Head (163 Runs) and Steve Smith  (121 Runs), Australia put 469 on board in their first inning.

Opener batsman David Warner and Travis’s head in the lower order also played crucial knocks of 43 runs and 48 runs respectively. 

Mohammad Siraj emerged as the top performer Indian bowler bagging 4 wickets in the first inning. Mohammad Shami and Shardul Thakur took 2-2 wickets each.

Despite, unfavourable conditions for spinners, Ravindra Jadeja managed to get 1 wicket while Umesh Yadav ended the first inning without any wickets.  

1st Day recap

85 overs were bowled on the first day of the WTC Final. Australia scored 327 runs losing 3 wickets. Travis Head was unbeaten on 146 and Steve Smith was playing at 95 at the time of stump. They both made a partnership of 251 runs after losing early wickets.

Australia lost early wickets

  • Mohammed Shami bowled Marnus Labushen, who was playing 26 runs on the first ball of the 25th over.
  • India’s second success in the 22nd over, Shardul dismissed David Warner, scoring 43 runs. Wicketkeeper KS Bharat took a brilliant catch and sent him to the pavilion.
  • India got the first success, Usman Khawaja out on the ball of Mohammad Siraj
